主題、主旨類選擇題
這類題包括確定短文的主題(topic or main point)、文章的大意(main idea)、題目(title)等，區別主要信息與次要信息。

事實和細節類的選擇題
在測試中，有些題目是根據文章中的事實和細節而設計的，對閱讀理解來說，理解字面意義是最起碼的要求，也就是說起碼應該理解文字已明確表達的信息，當然，這里也需要運用綜合和判斷的能力。此類題的目的在于考察考生對組成文章的主體部分的理解程度。這類問獍ㄑ嗜?who)、物(what)、時間(when)、地點(where)、文中的數據(data)、事情發生的原因和結果(cause and effect)等。常見的問題形式有:

推論類型選擇題
推論、推理類型題要求考生閱讀時，把句子水平的閱讀理解提高到語篇水平的閱讀理解，包括要求考生在宏觀上理解上下文的邏輯關系、通過分析判斷歸納總結并概括出合理的結論、理解作者的態度、根據文中內容并利用已有的知識來進行合理的預測與推斷。即在考試中要能在理解原文直接陳述觀點的基礎上，領悟作者的言外之意(implication or implied meaning)，進行合乎邏輯的推理(making logical inference)，得出一個合理的結論。所謂合理，是指準確地從原文中推理，而不是說讀者主觀認為的合理。

詞匯理解選擇題
詞匯是語言的建筑材料，這類試題主要測試考生利用上下文猜測生詞的詞義或確定常用詞匯在特定語言環境中確切含義的能力。出題對象一般為文中的關鍵詞語，如生詞、多義詞、復雜句式等。
