1.not so much...as...與其說...不如說...

　　Science moves forward , they say , not so much through the insights of great men of genius as because of more ordinary things like improved techniques and tools.

　　新學派科學家說，科學的發展與其說源于天才偉人的真知灼見，不如說源于改進了的技術和工具等更為普遍的東西。

　　【解析】這是一個主從復合句。插入語they say是主句，science moves forward...and tools 是賓語從句。Not so much...as 連接的是狀語，as引導的狀語從句中，由于上下文清楚，主謂語都省略了，即as because of ...;not so much ...as 可以為“與其說...不如說”，它所表達的邏輯關系和more than有著相同之處，也是在比較的基礎上進行判斷和選擇，被比較的事物也同屬一個范疇。所不同的是，more...than表示前重后輕的邏輯關系，這兩個結構中信息中心落在了句尾，因此不必倒過來翻譯，只需要按照原文的詞序順序即可。

　　2.the same ...as ...與...相同

　　You have made the same mistake as last time.

　　你又犯了和上次一樣的錯誤。

　　3.no less than(no less...than )不但...而且;不亞于;簡直是;實在是

　　【例1】China insists always no the need for self-reliance , no less in economic policies than in making revolution.

　　中國始終堅持獨立自主，這種堅持不但體現在革命方面，在經濟政策方面也是如此。

　　【解析】這是一個簡單句，no less ...than鏈接兩個介詞短語作狀語。no less ...than 連接兩個并列成分，信息中心在前面，因此漢譯時要倒過來譯。

　　【例2】There were no less than one thousand people at the metting.

　　到會的有一千多人(有“到會人多”的含義)

　　【解析】no less than連寫時，意為“不亞于”“多達”，強調數量多。No less than連寫時，意為“不少于”，無數良多或少的含義。如：There were not less than one thousand people at the metting .(到會的至少有一千人。)(注：沒有到會人多或少的含義。)

　　4.much less=still less 更不，更無

　　I could not agree to , much less participate in such proceedings.

　　我不能同意這種行為，更談不上參與這種行動了。

　　5....other than...不是...正是;除了...外，不會是...

　　Reaction other than the desired one often occur when reactants are brought together.

　　當這些反應物被放在一起時，常發生一些我們不希望有的反應。

　　【解析】other than為固定結構，其義有二：一是“與...不同，而不是”;二是“除了”之意。可插入名詞，本句中作“與...不同”解。
